This manager will be responsible for managing all personnel and activities associated with system level IV&V. Our client is looking for an individual to be part of the Systems Engineering team that is tasked with specifying their system, contributing to the integration of our clients other sub-systems, verifying the system requirements and commissioning the clients system in the field. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience analyzing systems, performing system integration activities in the field, leading verification test activities as well as troubleshooting issues and tracking issues to closure. The individual will be capable of developing test strategies for all phases of the system development life cycle; planning and managing system integration activities in the field, including travel, equipment and coordination with installation crews; planning and managing system verification test activities in the lab or in the field, including equipment orders and test system set up; contributing to the development of system integration plans and procedures as well as leading the development and execution of verification test plans and procedures;, understanding and using LabVIEW test applications; leading technical reviews and managing lessons learned; analyzing and understanding system architecture and requirements and identifying issues prior to start of system integration or verification activities; performing reliability analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and use results to inform system integration testing as necessary. The successful candidate will have experience as a supervisor of engineers and technicians, including providing technical direction, managing day-to-day activities, mentoring and performing HR related activities. The individual will be capable of accepting different task out of his/her comfort zone and base knowledge. This is a management and a hands-on position requiring multitasking, creative out-of-the-box thinking and commitment to own a wide range of management and systems engineering activities including test documentation development and test planning, system integration and verification test planning and execution, troubleshooting issues and tracking issues, and commissioning the observatory system in the field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, manage and execute system verification test activities in the field or in the lab in a very close interaction with the leader of system installation and integration activities
Develop, document and implement an overall test strategy and test plan for the system and the subsystems
Manage the development and execution of acceptance and commissioning tests in the field
Manage and direct a team of up to 12 test engineers
Perform managerial tasks and activities, including coordination, reporting, mentoring and work assignments
Provide system integration support in the field and coordinate activities with the installation and integration team
Develop system verification test plans and test strategies
Manage calibration status of test equipment
Review integration and system test plans, cases and procedures
Use LabVIEW test system software and hardware during testing and troubleshoot LabVIEW related issues
Specify, procure and build/setup/configure/troubleshoot test systems
Manage logistics and budget for systems verification in the field, including travel and equipment (procurement and management)
Analyze test results and prepare test reports; communicate findings to stakeholders and resolve non-conformances
Identify, track and resolve test issues
Interface with other teams on design changes based on learnings from the field as necessary
Perform inspection and testing of systems in the field
Manage Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and formal reviews of test results
Identify quality issues and approach for resolution in collaboration with Quality Manager
Analyze system architecture, external interfaces and system requirements
Identify requirements issues and approach for resolution in collaboration with Systems Team Manager
Perform and/or lead FMEA and reliability analysis
Perform engineering analysis of mechanical and/electrical systems
Participate in systems engineering reviews
Support the systems engineering team in executing risk management (identification, developing mitigations, etc.)
Follow safety requirements, policy and procedures.
Travel to assigned tower and aquatic construction sites for field testing activities
Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or other equivalent technical discipline
Minimum of 15 years experience in a system or device design and test environment
Minimum of 5 10 years experience of planning and managing system integration and verification test activities using standard test methods and processes
Minimum of 5 years experience planning and managing system integration activities
Minimum of 5 10 years experience managing engineering resources
Proficient in the following areas:
o Hands-on system integration and system verification experience in the field
o Familiarity with Ethernet and serial communications
o Experience with and knowledge of hardware and software revision control best practices
o Analysis and integration of complex, distributed systems
o Writing system test cases based upon system requirements and system operational concept
o Writing integration test cases based upon system architecture and Interface Control Documents
o Developing robustness test cases based on DFMEA
o Writing detailed test procedures for consistent, repeatable test execution
o Specifying and designing test system hardware and software (Familiarity with NI Hardware a plus)
o Building, configuring and debugging test systems
o Utilizing LabVIEW as a test tool
o Developing and using automated functional testing tools/scripts
o Evaluating, recommending and implementing automated test tools and automated test scripts
o Hands-on system integration test execution and troubleshooting
o Skilled in systems engineering processes and all phases of a product life cycle
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot electronic systems
Perform engineering analysis on mechanical systems, such as FEA, load analysis and natural frequency analysis
Ability to multitask
Very effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to work very effectively with diverse teams
Ability to direct and motivate team members
Self-directed and motivated, with the ability to work independently with little direction or supervision as well as in a collaborative environment
Willing and able to perform novel tasks that may be out of the individuals comfort zone and base knowledge
Ability to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. with and without equipment assistance
Ability to work on walk-up towers ranging in height up to 200 feet
Ability to travel/hike/walk on uneven terrain to, from and throughout work sites
