We seek highly talented individuals to join our dynamic, financially stable company.Johns Manville Technical Center is a 325,000 sq. ft. facility located on 81 acres in the Rocky Mountain foothills southwest of Denver. It is the home of corporate R&D, capital project management, and is a customer service center for the Insulation and Roofing business units. The facility includes accommodations for laboratory, pilot production, and office space. The JMTC laboratories feature state-of-the-art capabilities in the areas of product and process development, characterization, and testing.The Senior Metallurgist will lead R&Ds metallurgy efforts involving the development and improvement of high-temperature alloys used in Johns Manvilles domestic and European fiber glass producing operations as well as providing metallurgical analysis and expertise to all business units. The position requires strong interaction with alloy suppliers, labs, process engineering, production, and business leaders.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Serving as the key resource and expert in metallurgical engineering and alloy design
  • Assessing process capabilities, prioritizing process improvement opportunities, and innovating and implementing process improvements on complex processes
  • Exercising broad discretion to define and execute technical activities
  • Evaluating external technologies and strategically identifying opportunities to implement them
  • Determining corrosion mechanisms for metal alloys and ceramic refractory materials.
  • Reviewing and assessing patent opportunities
  • Providing mentoring and technical guidance to managers, other engineers, technicians, and functional groups
  • Assessing and developing opportunities and making compelling recommendations to senior management
  • Responsible for running metallurgical operations of the lab, making use of and maintaining the lab scale test equipment

Job Requirements

  • MS in Material Sciences, Metallurgy, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 -10 years of metallurgical experience (including emphasizing development and failure analysis)
  • Demonstrated experience in new alloy development
  • Experience with nondestructive evaluation (NDE) techniques, such as eddy current, ultrasound, radiography, XRF, XRD, SEM
  • Experience in identifying corrosion mechanisms
  • Proficient in statistical analyses (DOEs, FMEA, Gage R&R, SPC, Capability Studies).
  • Experience with high-temperature Co/Ni-based alloys
Additional Consideration Given To Those With:
  • PhD in Material Sciences, Metallurgy, or related discipline
  • Glass fiber industry experience.
  • Experience with ceramic refractory materials
  • Experience with precious metal management and optimization experience Alloy pool maintenance and quality control
  • Experience with material coatings and treatments
  • Thorough understanding of refining, melting, casting processes
  • Experience in running and maintaining a metallurgical lab (capital, operations and maintenance)
  • Experience in a manufacturing-based company
