Job Summary:

Under general supervision, develops and establishes business relationships with new and existing veterinary practices for an assigned territory of the United States. Strategically partners with veterinary practices and veterinary community with the intent of identifying opportunities to promote and sell new products and services. Responsibly for monitoring and increasing the usage and participation rates of the products and services in the practices.

CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for prospecting new veterinary practice accounts using existing veterinary channel points of contact to generate leads such as veterinary conferences/trade shows, industry events, referrals and pro-actively mining other opportunities through VPIs established role in the veterinary community. Establishes and maintains business relationships.
  • Develops opportunities to discuss VPI products and services directly with the key practice decision makers (e.g., veterinary practice owners or practice manager/administrators.
  • Utilizes CRM (Sales Force) to actively report all contact management and sales actions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Resolves issues and questions involving sales transactions and serves as a main point of contact. Re-directs technical and consumer related topics to appropriate support team. Partners and collaborates with VPI corporate back office support for all implementations and practice set up for all products and services.
  • Analyzes continuing market changes in pet health care consumer demand and confers with sales manager regarding competitor activities, product enhancements, and marketing and sales development tactics.
  • Conducts strategic account review regularly to review business needs and usage trends to achieve sales targets and business objectives.
  • Regularly visits targeted accounts, analyzes their business situations and participation rates to recommend new products and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Education: Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales or a related field preferred.

    License/Certification/Designation: Possession of a valid class C state drivers license, an acceptable driving record, and proof of insurance, as required by the company. If quoting, pricing, negotiating, or rating insurance, the employee must be able to attain a valid P&C (Property & Casualty) Insurance license along with the required appointment from the issuing insurance company. Licensed employees are expected to successfully complete at least 25 hours of continuing education each year. Employees must be able to frequently travel on company business.

    Experience: Minimum of three years experience in business development, consultative selling, prospecting, and account management, preferably in financial services or health care related products. Animal health industry experience is a plus.

    Knowledge: Knowledge of sales development, relationship building strategies, consultative selling, sales methods and closing techniques, competitor products and services.

    Skills/Competencies: Exercise initiative in translating leads to business opportunities and accounts. Skilled in consultative selling to gain sale and customer agreement. Independently organized and manage work tasks to achieve effective use of time including territory and travel planning. Ability to make persuasive presentations and communicate effectively with veterinary practice owners, hospital administrators, veterinary management consultants, VPI internal staff, and management. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures to prospects. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure including fractions and decimals. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule format. Ability to develop territory call plan including target prioritization, visit schedule, travel planning, etc.

    Working Conditions: Normal office conditions as well as travel including overnight stay approximately 40-60% of the time.
