Job Description

Overview/Background: 9Health Fair is an independent, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote health awareness and to encourage individuals to own their health. Founded by the National Institutes of Health and 9News in 1979, 9Health Fair has grown to support 170 community fairs across Colorado, coordinated and run by 19,000 volunteers. Over the past few years, 9Health Fair has implemented new Volunteer Engagement practices as a key organizational strategy to accomplish its goals and achieve its mission. 9Health Fairs commitment to world-class volunteer engagement strengthens and diversifies our volunteer base, encourages innovation in volunteer leadership and coordination, and ensures that the organization meets or exceeds it overall annual goals. We are working to blend the knowledge and commitment of our current volunteer leadership with the strengths that new leaders bring and create system-wide, sustainable volunteer engagement practices. In addition, all initiatives have the over-arching goal of touching the hearts and minds of all Coloradoans, so they can own their health, and raise health awareness in their communities.

The Volunteer Engagement Department provides support for all 9Health Fair initiatives including leadership development at the site level as well as building strong and collaborative working relationships for program support with colleagues in each 9Health Fair department. Most goals for this position will fall under broad areas of volunteer engagement: training, communication, recruitment, utilizing capacity-building volunteers effectively, and strategically developing volunteer leaders. This position requires an understanding of how different cultural norms affect health practices; this position will develop strategies to reach these communities. The Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to meet or exceed the community and volunteer engagement goals of the organization through outreach to diverse groups of potential participants and volunteers. This position is tasked with assuring cultural competency and successful outreach by 9Health Fair team members to ensure that the organization is best reaching diverse participants and volunteers, while meeting or exceeding its participation goals.


Responsibilities:

Community & Volunteer Engagement:

  • Achieve or exceed the community and volunteer engagement goals for 9Health Fair including increased total participants and increased total engaged volunteer leaders
  • Recruit both fair participants and leadership volunteers through diverse community outreach
  • Screen, train and support volunteers to ensure quality fairs and excellent participant experience
  • Increase community and volunteer engagement through outreach directly to diverse groups, partners and events to broaden the participant base of 9Health Fair
  • Coordinator trainings for volunteers to best support fairs, as wells as provide additional community outreach in diverse communities though a volunteer outreach team
  • Design and implement an outreach plan for volunteer engagement and fair participation
  • Outreach to diverse communities in the metro area, and strategic state-wide areas, to increase fair participation and volunteer engagement
  • Achieve or exceed volunteer training goals by coordinating quality volunteer trainings via classroom, web and online learning
  • Support volunteer engagement inquiries and day-of-fair volunteers with excellent communication for optimal engagement
  • Ensure excellent communication with our volunteers through the use of Salesforce, social media, web calls, emails, phone calls, in-person meetings, and trainings
  • Design and support the annual call center for the spring fair season to ensure excellent customer service for participants and potential participants, as well as community members, call in for support and education

District/State Fair Support:

  • Act as an integral staff member in the training of volunteers for fair sites
  • Expand outreach efforts to current and new fair sites to ensure the cultural competency necessary to best serve that fairs participants
  • Metro district and Statewide region, with continuous updates to database
  • Act as a 9Health Fair staff liaison to a Metro Denver District and to a Statewide Region
  • Build trusting, professional relationships, while maintain up-to-date assessment of needs and concerns of the sites within assigned district/region
  • Be an integral team member in 9Health Fairs goal to serve more participants throughout the state
  • Be an integral team member in 9Health Fairs goal to ensure the highest level of volunteer engagement throughout our organization to ensure growth and sustainability
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelors degree and/or equivalent experience, preferably in a health-related field
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is highly preferred
  • 3+ years experience conducting community outreach and volunteer engagement and experience serving one or more traditionally underserved community
  • Understanding of and involvement in the Denver-metro area is important
  • Excellent understanding of cultural competencies
  • Experience with leadership volunteers, volunteer recruitment, skilled volunteer placement and team building
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication, organizational skills and ability to multi-task required
  • Must be self-motivated and committed to health education
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications required
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, some travel is necessary (4-8 weeks per year within Colorado and bordering states)
  • Valid Drivers license and good Motor Vehicle Record
