Job Description

The Plant Health, Safety & Environmental Specialistdevelops, implements, and maintains site/plant safety, health and environmental programs; assures compliance with the companys HS&E standards and existing federal, provincial and local environmental regulations.

ThePhenix City, ALfacility produces mineral wool insulation and is located in the Phenix City, AL/Columbus, GA area. The plant has approximately 175 employees.

Assures compliance with the companys HS& E standards and existing federal, state and local environmental regulations.
Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance of these programs.
Develop, implements, and maintains site/plant safety, health and environmental programs.
Provides accurate, cost-effective and timely technical and regulatory compliance support to plant
Coordinates site/plant-wide safety audits and analyze results
Ensures the proper disposal of hazardous wastes and lead a plant-wide effort to eliminate solid waste by reducing process wastes, reusing, and recycling various materials.
Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice
Maintains current knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies
Establishes and maintains program to ensure that operating permits are in order for all sources of air emissions; ensures that all industrial wastewaters discharged from the plant will not violate the limits of the plant operating discharge permit
Monitors and prevents chemical, physical and biological hazards that could be present in the work area
Ensures process and wastewaters are properly managed to protect ground waters and surface tributaries from contamination
Represent the company with state and federal agencies as required. facilitates incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions
Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment, to minimize the hazardous potential
Establishes and implements plant-wide safety communications to ensure employees are aware of potential hazards and unsafe conditions
Participate as a member of the Central Safety and Health Committee and all sub-committees
Trains and oversees all personnel involved in water sampling and testing, maintaining environmental abatement equipment, emergency procedures, and handling of hazardous materials and wastes, ensures our communities and employees are aware of the potential hazards created by plant operations.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

BS/BA degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related technical field
Minimum of 3 years experience in a safety and environmental role.
Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations relating to air, water, solid waste and hazardous waste management.
Working knowledge of behavior based safety including general principles, audit process, root cause analysis, incentives, and accountability.
Experience in hazard awareness and risk assessment for flammable and hazardous materials.
Solid leadership, management, motivational, supervisory and administrative skills.
Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrated root-cause analysis skills.
Demonstrated Safety and health assessments/audit skills.
Demonstrated effective training techniques and skills.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Computer proficiency in software applications required for analyzing, monitoring, reporting and presentations.

Additional Consideration Given To Those With:

Black Belt/Green Belt certification a plus. Understanding of electrical classifications and ergonomics principles a plus. Experience in Lean, Six Sigma or similar continuous process improvement methodology Analytical ability to determine and develop solutions to moderately complex problems. CSP a plus VPP experience Lock Out / Tag Out
