Raytheon is seeking talented Sr. E2 Systems Software Maintenance Engineers to provide engineering support to maintain high priority operational systems at a high level of availability, and resolve problems based on mission criticality and guidance. The Sr. E2 Maintenance Engineer performs software application maintenance on assigned mission systems running a variety of operating systems to include Solaris, Unix, Linux, and VMS. This position receives minimal supervision. The employee is expected to refer only exceptional problems to the supervisor; the supervisor usually follows up only when an objective has not been met or when a change in policy or procedure is needed.

The Sr E2 Maintenance Engineer establishes requirements for software enhancements and new software, anddevelops the code. Detects, isolates, documents, quickly reports, and resolves system outages, or problems encountered during operations of the operational system baseline, which includes the collections of diagnostic data, restoring the system operation, development of workarounds, and other activities necessary for recovery of a system. Accurately documents problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools. Analyzes software errors and writes the software to correct those errors. Also supports system engineering groups as required for ongoing analysis and integration efforts. Provides support to the development and refinement of process and procedures to ensure continual improvement of ongoing maintenance service. Works with other maintenance engineers across multiple locations providing maintenance support, and frequently communicates with the Customer to help establish requirements and schedules. Environment fluctuates between routine and urgent, depending on ongoing tasks, priorities, and performance of assigned systems.

Required Skills:

This position can be a Salary Grade E03 or E04 based on the candidates qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

  • A grade/level E03 position requires a BS Degree in a related technical discipline and minimum4 years experience performing E2 or related software application maintenance on assigned mission systems running a variety of operating systems to include Solaris, Unix, Linux, and VMS OR possess the equivalence of12 years direct experience in lieu of a degree

  • A grade/level E04 position requires a BS Degree in a related technical discipline and minimum6 years experience performing E2 or related software application maintenance on assigned mission systems running a variety of operating systems to include Solaris, Unix, Linux, and VMS OR possess the equivalence of14 years direct experience in lieu of a degree

  • Experience coding in C/C++ with Java and knowledge of FORTRAN highly desired

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively interact with internal and external organizations

  • Strong software troubleshooting and debugging capability

  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment with changing priorities

  • Ability to provide after hours support as required to support maintenance activities

  • Requires very good communication skills for the effective and accurate exchange of information across a multi-location enterprise, with customer visibility into maintainer based actions and response
